Statement of Policy
This Office respects personal data privacy and are committed to implementing and complying with the data protection principles and relevant provisions under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
When personal data is collected from any individuals, the data subject will be provided with a Personal Information Collection Statement on or before the collection in an appropriate format and manner.
Kind of personal data held and Purposes of Collection
The kinds of personal data held by this Office can be broadly divided into three categories and for purposes listed below –
- Employment-related records which include personal data collected for processing job applications, payment of salary and allowances, and arrange training and development, etc.
- General administrative records which include personal data collected in connection with the office administration functions such as handling enquiries and complaints, and implementation of access controls, etc.
- Other records which include personal data collected for appointments to Government Boards and Committees, and nominations for Honours and Awards, etc.
Access to and correction of personal data
We recognise an individual’s rights of access to and correction of personal data in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. To make a data access or correction request, an individual should complete the appropriate form appended below and submit the completed form to the Data Protection Officer of this Office in person, by fax (fax number 2537 1779), by email (admwing@cso.gov.hk) or by post to the following address –

When handling a data access or correction request, we will check the identity of the requester to ensure that he/she is the person legally entitled to make the data access or correction request.
A charge will be imposed to cover the cost of photocopying personal data to be supplied in response to a data access request. Requestors will be advised in advance of the charge to be levied.
